About This Experience

Señor Tango has been staging the same kind of evening in Barracas for more than twenty years, and its scale is the point: a full company of musicians, singers and dancers working a room built for spectacle rather than intimacy. If you want to sit three feet from a bandoneón, this is the wrong venue. If you want a production, it is among the largest in the city.

What makes it the most useful listing on this site, though, is not the show — it is the way the menu is written. Most Buenos Aires tango houses sell you "dinner and show" and leave you to discover what that means about the drinks. Señor Tango publishes three distinct tiers and says exactly what is poured on each one.

The **show-only ticket** is a seat and nothing else. No wine, no beer, no soft drink included. The **Executive menu** is three courses with complimentary house wine, beer, soft drinks and water, and it moves you into the executive section with a better view of the stage. The **VIP menu** is a gourmet version of those three courses with an open bar of selected drinks, the same preferred seating, and transport included.

The food across both dinner tiers runs to typical Argentine and international dishes — grilled meats as the centrepiece, pasta alongside, vegetarian options available, and a dessert course to finish. Dinner is served from 7:00pm and cleared before the 9:00pm curtain; you are not eating while the dancers work.

Because the drinks are itemised rather than implied, this is the venue where the "is dinner worth it" arithmetic is easiest to do honestly. Two people who would each have a couple of glasses of wine over an evening are comparing the Executive menu not against the bare ticket price, but against that ticket plus a bar tab the ticket does not cover at all.
